This two-week summer camp invites middle school students to explore the exciting world of comic books as tools for storytelling, creativity, and social justice. Students will dive into iconic DC and Marvel characters, storylines, and films to see how heroes and villains connect to real-world issues like power, responsibility, and fairness. Through creative writing and graphic storytelling, students will create their own original superheroes and arch-villains, complete with unique powers and origin stories. Learning will extend beyond the classroom with visits to local comic shops and bookstores, along with opportunities to learn from guest cartoonists and graphic animators. The camp culminates in a collaborative, professionally assembled class comic book that showcases each student’s imagination and voice.
